Pillows for a Friend

I made this pillow for a neighbor. She bought the material and asked me to put it together for her. I usually put the zipper in the seam but it gets so bulky, especially if you do piping so I found this tutorial to put a zipper in the back and it's hidden. I like how it turned out. I might just have to make some for myself...

What did I do with my free time?

Both boys actually took a nap while Nora was at school this afternoon. So I thought, "Great, I might get some stuff done." Did I tackle any of the stuff on my to do list? Nope, instead I made this....

Sometimes I wish there was a drug to quiet these creative demons inside me...

P.S. Here's where I found it. It's pretty cute, hugh?

For the Art Party

I made these aprons as favors to give out at Nora's art party. They were pretty easy, which is a good thing since I had to make ten of them. I found the pattern here. Jack is modeling the masculine version...

An Art Party

Nora's birthday is coming up so she's having a party at a local craft place. I looked for the perfect invitation but of course I couldn't find anything that I liked. So I came up with my own. I tried a girl with facial features but I'm just not good at them, especially on such a small scale. Nora even said, "That girl is pretty but her face looks funny." So I decided to scrap the face.

Happy Earth Day

Just wanted to share some information about eating organic that I didn't realize. I knew that organic food is raised using little to no pesticides, no growth hormones, no antibiotics or genetic engineering. For these reasons I knew that it is better for the environment and for us to eat. I didn't realize that part of the government production and handling standards also states that animals need to have access to the outdoors and can only be confined temporarily for health and safety reasons. If you want to read the US standards check them out here. There are more and more reasons to eat organic!! And now that most grocery store chains have their own generic brand of organic it makes it easier than ever as well as more affordable for all of us. By the way, the generic organic brands have to live up to the same government set standards that the others do.
I can't wait for this summer to check out the local farmer's markets. Check out this website to find some great ones near you!

Busy Weekend

We had a really crazy weekend. Most of my family came for Easter and then we had to make a trip to the emergency room on Sunday afternoon. My niece fell and cut her lip badly. Well to make a long story short we were there until 2 am so that they could fix her up. She's fine now but it was a long day into night. Then my Benny had another ear infection, one of many this winter. So that lead to some sleepless nights as well. Everyone is now back on track, thankfully.
I made these button elastics with some button covers that I found in my sewing box. I hope this quiets my creating urges for now (and makes a soon to be six-year-old happy) since I haven't had the time or energy to do much else lately. I found a tutorial here in case you're interested. I didn't quite follow it, but close enough.

My Latest Obsession

I used to know how to crochet but I had forgotten because I hadn't done it for so long. I think I first taught myself years ago after I found a great article in Martha Stewart Living. I used this to relearn. I was inspired by the beautiful granny squares on this blog. They reminded me of the beautiful blankets my grandmother used to make. I hope to make this one for Nora who's favorite color is pink (surprise, surprise!!)
